Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry offers businesses many opportunities that are into supplying medical products and packaging.
The reason behind that? Pakistan’s primary reliance on imports.
Almost every hospital and healthcare facility needs infusion bottles. However, Pakistan has to import them because local manufacturing isn’t enough.
So, the opportunity here is to start manufacturing infusion bottles locally.
With a 26 crore population, 700+ pharmaceutical companies, and demand for medical supplies, local infusion bottle manufacturing is worth exploring.
If you’re interested in this opportunity, read this article and learn about the required machinery, its cost, production, and much more.
Infusion Bottles | Product Overview

An infusion bottle is a medical container that holds and delivers intravenous (IV) fluids, saline solution, or medications into a patient’s bloodstream.
IV bottles are made of PP (polypropylene) and come in different sizes and volumes.
These bottles consist of three parts:
a. Infusion bottle preform (which is blown into a bottle)
b. Infusion cap
c. Cover
All these parts are made on injection molding machines, which are then fed into the Blowing, Filling & Sealing Machine (BFS).
BFS machine (which is fully automated) blows the preforms into full bottles, fills them with the intended fluid, and then seals them with infusion caps.
Complete Setup Required for Infusion Bottle Manufacturing

The proposed setup from HiTech Machinery includes both the injection molding (for parts manufacturing) and a BFS machine (for blowing, filling, and sealing).

How Are 3 Parts Produced on 2 Injection Molding Machines?
The setup uses two machines to produce three components, to save the money for a third injection molding machine.
Machine 1 Produces Preforms
The Tederic DT400/i2500 (in the proposed setup) is dedicated to preform production. A 48-cavity mold is fitted on it to produce preforms needed for the bottle-blowing stage.
Machine 2 Makes Caps and Covers
The Tederic DT300/i1500 produces caps using its 48-cavity cap mold.
Once sufficient caps are produced, the operator changes the mold and installs the cover mold. The machine then produces covers.
Best Weekly Production Plan
Assuming both machines can run 24 hours a day, the week has 168 hours available.
And you have set the manufacturing setup at following cycle time:
|
Part |
Cycle Time |
Cavities |
Production per Hour |
|
Bottle preform |
18 seconds |
48 |
9,600 |
|
Infusion cap |
14 seconds |
48 |
12,343 |
|
Cover |
8 seconds |
48 |
21,600 |
According to the aforementioned cycle times, here is the schedule we recommend. It requires just one mold change per week on Machine 2.
|
Machine |
Production Activity |
Operating Time per Week |
Expected Production |
|
Machine 1 |
Preforms |
137.5 hours |
1,320,000 |
|
Machine 2 |
Infusion caps |
107 hours |
1,320,686 |
|
Machine 2 |
Covers |
61 hours |
1,317,600 |
NOTE: This schedule assumes no mold-changing downtime, rejects, or other production losses. Actual production will be lower if these occur.
Total Investment
The complete setup, which includes the manufacturing parts as well as blow-fill-seal, costs approximately PKR 24 crore.
In this total estimate, the manufacturing part (with 2 IMMs) costs PKR 11 crore, and the prices for the blow-fill-seal setup can reach PKR 13 crore.
However, keep in mind that this is the FOB China cost. It can vary based on the time, ex-factory prices, customs charges, USD-PKR conversion, etc.

Expected Production Capacity
Again, there are two types of production here.
First is the production of parts of infusion bottles with injection molding machines. The second is the ready bottle (after blow-fill-seal) that comes out of the BFS machine.
In the first part/phase, injection-molded capacity can reach up to 10,000 pcs/hour.
On the other hand, the blow-fill-seal capacity of the proposed BFS machines can reach up to 8,000 infusion bottles.
However, it depends on the size of the infusion bottle being blown, which fluid is being filled, its viscosity, and volume.
At 8,000 bottles per hour, the equivalent monthly figure would be 16.64 lakh bottles.
These are theoretical figures. Actual saleable production will be lower if the line experiences downtime, rejects, cleaning, or component shortages.
