The Star Bags Manufacturing Journey with HiTech Machinery

How to start manufacturing traveling trolley bags business

HiTech Machinery regularly visits its clients to understand their operations and gather feedback on the support provided by our technical teams. Continuing this tradition, our team visited the manufacturing facility of Star Bags.

During the visit, we had the pleasure of meeting their General Manager, Mr. Naeem Jan, who shared Star Bags succces story, their journey with HiTech Machinery, and gave us an inside look at the complete process of making travel bags.

Entering the Plastic Manufacturing Field

Speaking about the beginning of their journey, Mr. Naeem Jan shared that the company entered this field around two years ago after setting up their unit.

Initially, Star Bags used an ABS extruder machine, where sheets were produced first, followed by molding, CNC cutting, and then assembly. While the process worked, it was time-consuming.

Two platen Injection Molding Machine

With the installation of a two-platen injection molding machine, the production process became significantly more efficient. The molded parts that came from the injection machine are moved directly to assembly, resulting in much higher productivity compared to the earlier extrusion-based process.

Choice of HiTech Machinery Over Direct Import

When asked about the decision to work with HiTech Machinery, Mr. Naeem Jan explained that importing machinery was initially considered. However, the lack of reliable after-sales service made local support (from HiTech Machinery) a key deciding factor.

He shared that HiTech Machinery stood out due to its quick response and technical support. In case of any issue, HiTech’s service engineers reach the site within an hour and resolve problems efficiently. This support has played a major role in ensuring smooth operations.

Summarizing his experience, Mr. Naeem Jan described it as very positive. He highlighted the cooperative attitude of HiTech Machinery’s management, especially Mr. Habib ur Reman and Mr. Waheedullah, and expressed complete satisfaction with the partnership.

Inside the Star Bags Production Unit

During the factory walkthrough, we observed the entire production process. The 1080-ton two-platen injection molding machine by HiTech Machinery is equipped with a robot mounted on top.

As soon as the mold opens, the robot picks up the back part and places it accurately, ensuring consistency and reducing manual handling. This particular 1080-ton two-platen machine was the first of its kind in Pakistan, delivered by HiTech Machinery.

Since its installation nearly a year ago, Star Bags has produced around 20,000 sets, which translates to approximately 114,000 individual pieces.

Product Range at Star Bags

manufactures traveling trolley bags in three sizes

Currently, Star Bags manufactures traveling trolley bags in three sizes, 20, 24, and 29 sizes. Normally, the same three sizes you see on the market in travel suitcases. There were two designs of these sizes.

With a cycle time of around 38 to 47 seconds, variable across the sizes, the machine makes thousands of individual pieces on a daily basis. Comparatively much more than what they had been getting from the extruder.  Mr. Naeem Jan told us that they were able to make approximately 450 complete bag sets in 24 hours.

Mold, Assembly, and Inspection Section

Each bag size requires a separate mold. A single mold cannot produce multiple bag sizes, a common misconception clarified during the visit. Star

Fabric installation is also an essential part of trolley bag manufacturing, as it enhances both functionality and appearance.

Once assembly is complete, each bag undergoes a final inspection. Wheels, handles, and zippers are carefully checked to ensure there are no defects. Only after passing this quality check does the bag reach its final form.

Future Plans

We saw some of the bag components, such as trolley wheels, are currently imported from China. However, Star Bags plans to manufacture these parts locally in the near future. And they plan to add on more two platen injection molding machines to further enhance their production capacity.
